Salon Basnet is a celebrated and versatile Nepali actor who has been active in the film industry since his early childhood. Born on March 23, 1991, in Thankot, Kathmandu, he is the son of veteran filmmaker Shovit Basnet and Meena Basnet. Growing up in a film-oriented family, Salon was exposed to acting and cinema from a young age. He began his acting journey as a child actor and appeared in several popular films such as Nepali Babu, Aafanta, Dhukdhuki, Pinjada, and Hami Tin Bhai. His natural screen presence and confidence in front of the camera marked him as a future star even during his childhood years.
Salon made his official debut as a leading actor in 2013 with the youth-based movie Hostel, directed by Hemraj BC. His performance as “Junge,” a tough yet emotional character, received widespread praise and turned him into an overnight sensation among young audiences. The film was a commercial success and is credited with revitalizing the new generation of Nepali cinema. Following the success of Hostel, Salon continued to impress with his roles in movies like Gajalu, A Mero Hajur 2, 3, and 4, Radhe, Jai Bhole, Hajar Juni Samma, Dada Ko Bar Pipal, Mela, Black, and December Falls. In 2025, Salon starred in Rangi, a social drama that added a new dimension to his acting career. In the film, he played the role of Pawan, a single father determined to give his daughter a better life. The film, which was released on February 14, 2025, showcased his emotional maturity and depth as an actor and received critical acclaim. His performance in Rangi was praised for its authenticity and heartfelt portrayal of a father’s struggles and redemption.
Apart from his work in films, Salon is also passionate about music and dance. He has been playing the guitar since his school days and enjoys punk rock music, especially songs by Green Day.
