Prakash Saput
Description
Prakash Saput is a renowned Nepali singer, songwriter, composer, actor, and social activist known for using folk music to highlight pressing social issues. Born on September 14, 1990, in a Dalit family in Baglung, Nepal, he began his career as a radio jockey before moving to Kathmandu to pursue music. He gained national fame with his 2018 hit song Bola Maya, which portrays the emotional pain of migrant workers — a theme that recurs in much of his work. His music often blends traditional Nepali folk with contemporary storytelling, tackling subjects like caste discrimination, poverty, and the struggles of ordinary Nepalis. Songs like Galbandi, Pir, Mero Pani Haina Ra Yo Desh, and Sakambari have been praised for their cinematic quality and deep social resonance.
Beyond music, Saput has ventured into acting, making his debut in the successful film Pardeshi 2 and later appearing in Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi, which became Nepal’s highest-grossing film. He is also preparing to release Basanta, a film inspired by his own experiences with caste-based discrimination. Prakash Saput has received national honors, including the Janasewa Shri award, and has served as a goodwill ambassador for both the Nepal Tourism Board and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority. Through his art and activism, he continues to inspire millions by giving voice to the marginalized and reflecting the real struggles of Nepali society.
