Raju Pariyar is a renowned Nepali folk singer, widely celebrated as the “Lok Swar Samrat,” which translates to “Emperor of Folk Voice.” Born on June 28, 1980, in Chisapani, Lamjung, he grew up immersed in the rich musical traditions of the Gurung community, particularly the Rodhi culture—an integral part of rural Nepali life that combines music, dance, and social gatherings. His early exposure to folk music laid the foundation for a prolific career. He began performing in local Dohori events like Dobhan Dohori Saanjh and Pukar Dohori Saanjh, where he honed his craft and collaborated with established artists such as Badri Pangeni. Raju Pariyar made his official debut with the song “Kishimkotma Chari Nacheko,” recorded at Reema Recording Studio. He soon gained national attention through Radio Nepal’s Sur Parikshya competition. Over the past two decades, he has recorded more than 16,000 songs, a remarkable feat that underscores his dedication and popularity in the Nepali music industry. His songs often reflect themes of love, hardship, tradition, and rural life, resonating deeply with audiences across the country. Pariyar continues to perform live at major events and festivals, including the Lamjung Mahotsav, captivating crowds with his powerful voice and emotionally charged performances.
