Kathmandu – The release of the film “Abhimanyu: Chapter 1” has been postponed once again. Originally slated for release on Ashoj 13 (Phulpati during the Dashain festival), the film will now hit theaters on Ashoj 24. The production team issued a statement on Sunday announcing the change in release date.
The rescheduling comes after concerns were raised about limited showtimes, as four Nepali films were set to release on the same day (Ashoj 13). Taking into account the requests of distributors and exhibitors, the production team decided to shift the release date.
The statement clarified that the film will now be released nationwide and internationally — including in Nepal and India in both Nepali and Hindi languages on Ashoj 24.
The official press release stated:
“We had originally planned to release ‘Abhimanyu – Chapter 1’ on Bhadra 27, but due to the Gen-Z movement in the country, the release had to be postponed. Since much of our marketing material had already been deployed and multiple other films are releasing on Ashoj 13, it would have been difficult for theaters to allocate enough shows, which could negatively impact our film and others. Taking all these factors into account, we have finalized Ashoj 24 as the new and auspicious release date. On this day, the film will be released both in Nepali and Hindi across Nepal and globally. We are grateful for your continued support and apologize for any inconvenience caused to distributors, exhibitors, audiences, and media both inside and outside Nepal due to this change.”
This time, the film will enjoy a solo release, which the production team sees as a significant and beneficial opportunity.
Presented by Seven Seas Cinema, Abhimanyu: Chapter 1 stars Kameshwor Chaurasiya, Sarita Giri, Kiran Shrestha, Laxmi Bardewa, Gaumaya Gurung, Prakash Dahal, and Shishir Wangdel in major roles. The film is directed by Sushant Gautam, with Madan Thapa serving as the creative director and Mukesh Khanal as the screenwriter.
Producers of the film are Binod Paudel and Gunjan Giri, with Ramesh Chaulagain and Hari Shrestha as co-producers. The executive producers include Bishal Lama, Hari Moktan, Krishna Bhattarai, Nirajan Luintel, and Sandesh Shrestha. Jeevan Shakya is the line producer.
The film’s cinematography is by Sharad Mahato, Manoj Shrestha handled the VFX, Junim Gahtoraj was in charge of color grading, and Madan Ghimire worked as the editor.
Given its simultaneous release in both Nepali and Hindi across India and the world from Ashoj 24, the film is being seen as a major opportunity for the Nepali film industry.
