
Kathmandu- Popular actress from the South Indian Kannada film industry, Ranya Rao, has been arrested in a gold smuggling case. She was apprehended at the Bengaluru International Airport on charges of gold smuggling. Ranya’s stepfather, K. Ramachandra Rao, is an IPS officer in Karnataka. According to reports, Ranya came under police investigation after making four trips to Dubai in 15 days.
On Monday night, the police seized 14.8 kilograms of gold from Ranya at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. According to the authorities, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested her. After her arrest, Ranya was presented in the Economic Offenses Court, which sent her to judicial custody for 14 days.
Ranya is well-known for her role opposite Kannada superstar Sudeep in the film ‘Manikya’ (92014). She has also appeared in several other South Indian films.
