Kathmandu: Actress Priyana Acharya, who stars in the upcoming Nepali film Karki Saila, has put her film promotion activities on hold to support flood victims in Rasuwa and Nuwakot.
Amid the devastation caused by the Bhotekoshi River flood, Acharya personally arranged and sent five trucks loaded with relief supplies to affected communities. The relief materials include essential food and daily-use items needed by families facing shortages following the disaster.
With Karki Saila scheduled to hit theaters nationwide on September 18 (Asoj 2), Acharya was expected to be busy promoting the film. However, she has chosen humanitarian support over promotional activities at a time when flood victims are in urgent need of assistance.
“Right now, people affected by the flood need relief more than film promotion. That is why I am fully involved in this relief campaign,” Acharya said.
Acharya also visited the affected areas with the relief supplies and observed the situation of flood victims firsthand. She said helping people during a disaster is also a social responsibility of artists.
Meanwhile, Karki Saila is based on the story of a porter who makes a living by carrying heavy loads. Jitu Nepal and Priyana Acharya play the lead roles. The film’s song ‘Lagyou Paran’ has received a positive response from audiences, with the pairing of Jitu and Priyana also drawing attention.
Directed by Rajendra Basnet, the film is based on a story by Dambar Rai, with screenplay and dialogue by Shankar Dhital and Sabin Adhikari. Bal Kumar Rai and Nirbhik Banjara are the producers, while Ananta Rai serves as executive producer.
The film also features Sushil Pokharel, Birendra Singh Kushwaha, Manshi Sharma, Manil Tamang, Dipson Limbu, Kamal Devkota, Roda Rai, Menuka Acharya, and Ganesh Rajbhandari, among others.
