Artist Exploitation Back in Discussion

...

Kathmandu — The issue of artists not receiving their payments has once again surfaced in the Nepali music industry. The trend of labor exploitation and the lack of fair compensation for hard work has frustrated many artists.

Artists have been raising their voices on social media about the financial injustice they have been facing. Recently, well-known singers Anju Panta and Eleena Chauhan also made public complaints about not receiving their payments.

Singer Panta wrote that a certain individual who had promised to return her money within 15 days has not paid her back even after five months. She wrote, “He keeps saying he will pay tomorrow, the day after, and keeps making excuses. Even today he made another excuse. Now I might be forced to make his name, photo, and video public and take legal action. I hope the situation doesn’t come to that. What should I do?”

Similarly, singer Eleena Chauhan expressed anger over the injustice faced by artists, writing, “The ones who eat up artists’ hard-earned money and fill their bellies by exploiting their work must be exposed. The one who works hard suffers, while the lazy one enjoys the reward.”

Earlier too, many choreographers, musicians, and other creative professionals had complained about not receiving their payments. With this issue repeatedly resurfacing, there are growing calls for strong action to be taken to solve the problem once and for all.
