Kuma Sagar

Kuma Sagar

Description

Kuma Sagar, whose real name is Siddhi Sagar Prajapati, is a rising Nepali musician known for blending traditional Newa musical roots with modern styles. Born and raised in Bhaktapur, he was introduced to music through local dafa groups and his grandfather, who taught him to play traditional instruments like the Khing baja and Dha. Despite initial resistance from his family and community, Kuma Sagar pursued his passion, even facing periods of isolation before his father eventually supported him by buying his first guitar. He gained national attention after appearing on The Voice of Nepal in 2019, which, although he didn’t win, helped propel his music career. His breakout track, Bajeko Bajang, recorded on a phone during lockdown, demonstrated his DIY approach and musical ingenuity. Songs like A Mai Re, Chahare Sari, and Oh Champa showcase his signature blend of folk melodies with contemporary arrangements, earning millions of views and widespread acclaim. His band, Kuma Sagar and the Khwopa Band, won the Best Band Award at the National Music Awards 2081. Known for powerful live performances, the band has toured extensively across Nepal and internationally, including a successful 2025 Australia tour. Beyond music, Kuma Sagar is celebrated for his humility, cultural authenticity, and commitment to preserving Newa heritage through sound.
