Description
Shrinkhala Khatiwada is a Nepali model, social advocate, and beauty pageant winner who earned the title of Miss Nepal World 2018. She went on to represent Nepal at the Miss World 2018 pageant, where she reached the Top 12 finalists and received global recognition by winning the Beauty with a Purpose Award, becoming the second Nepali woman to receive this honor after Ishani Shrestha.
Early Life and Family Background
Born on November 3, 1995 (17 Kartik 2052 BS) in Hetauda, located in Nepal’s Bagmati Province, Shrinkhala grew up in a politically active family. Her father, Birodh Khatiwada, is a senior member of the CPN (UML) and has been elected multiple times to Nepal’s House of Representatives from Makwanpur-2. Her mother, Munu Sigdel Khatiwada, leads the CPN (UML) in Makwanpur District and serves in the provincial assembly of Bagmati Province. Shrinkhala has one elder brother, Bimba, who lives in Australia. Beyond pageantry, she serves as National Chancellor for the International Association of Educators for World Peace (IAEWP) and also leads the One Home Foundation as its President.
Education
Shrinkhala began her formal education at Hetauda Academy, where she completed her SLC. She later moved to Kathmandu and studied at GoldenGate International College for her high school (+2) education. She pursued her undergraduate studies in architecture at the Institute of Engineering, Pulchowk Campus, graduating as the top student in her batch. Continuing her academic journey, she earned her Master’s degree in Urban Planning from the prestigious Harvard Graduate School of Design.Miss Nepal 2018
On April 11, 2018, Shrinkhala was crowned Miss Nepal World 2018 at a pageant held in Kathmandu. She was selected from a pool of 25 contestants and became the 23rd Miss Nepal. In addition to the main title, she was awarded the subtitles Miss Fascino and Miss Beautiful Hair, highlighting her popularity and charm during the competition.
Miss World 2018
Representing Nepal on the global stage, Shrinkhala competed against 118 contestants at Miss World 2018 held in Sanya, China. She made history by placing in the Top 12, one of the best results for Nepal at the international event.
World Designer Competition
During the World Designer round of the competition, she encountered a slight mishap as the train of her dress got entangled with the embroidery, causing it to repeatedly slip through the slit of her gown. Head to Head Challenge
Shrinkhala was placed in Group 13 alongside contestants from Luxembourg, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Guam, and Moldova. She won the first round of the challenge, progressing past her group, but was later eliminated by Singapore in the second round.
Multimedia Award
On December 3, 2018, Shrinkhala was honored with the Miss Multimedia Award after receiving the highest public vote count among all Miss World contestants. This award earned her direct entry into the Top 30. On the same night, she also became the second runner-up in the Sanya Tourism Video Award for her creative and technically impressive promotional video.
Beauty with a Purpose Award
Out of 25 shortlisted humanitarian projects, Shrinkhala’s health and wellness initiative in rural Chepang village was selected as the winner of the Beauty with a Purpose Award. Her project focused on access to healthcare for underserved communities. Upon winning, she expressed her joy via social media, writing:
“The reason I joined Miss Nepal was to be a part of Miss World and its mission of Beauty with a Purpose. To me, this title has always meant more than just the crown—and now, I feel truly fulfilled.”
The Grand Finale
The final event of Miss World 2018 took place on December 8, 2018, in Sanya, China. Shrinkhala advanced into the Top 12, along with fellow Asian and Oceanian delegates like Miss Thailand (Nicolene Pichapa Limsnukan) and Miss New Zealand (Jessica Tyson).
