Bikram Budhathoki: The Face Behind Hundreds of Music Videos

...

In one music video, he is in love. In another, he is dealing with heartbreak. Sometimes he is waiting for someone, sometimes betrayed, and at other times trying to save a fading relationship.

The stories and songs keep changing, but one familiar face has remained on screen for more than a decade—Bikram Budhathoki.

With appearances in more than 500 music videos, Bikram has become one of the recognizable faces of Nepal’s music-video industry, particularly in stories built around love, separation and relationships.

It All Began With ‘I Love You’

Bikram’s journey began with ‘I Love You’, featuring lyrics and music by Naresh Khati and vocals by Mexam Khati.

His interest in performance had started much earlier. Growing up in Dhapur, Ratnapur, Dang, he regularly participated in school programs and Deusi-Bhailo performances. He later went to Qatar for employment, but continued performing whenever opportunities came.

After returning to Nepal, he received his first opportunity to appear in a music video.. He initially planned to stay only for a few months before going abroad again. But the response to his early projects changed his plans.

“People appreciated my initial projects. After four or five of them received a good response, I felt that I should try to build something here,” he recalls.

That decision eventually shaped his career.

The Song That Changed His Momentum

One of the projects that gave Bikram a major boost was ‘Jaslai Dherai Maya Garthe’, created in collaboration with Santosh KC. The music video crossed 10 million views, becoming an important milestone in his career.

He later appeared in popular songs such as ‘Dhokebaj’ by Shiva Pariyar and ‘Tanna Paisa Kamauna Man Thyo’ by Ramesh Raj Bhattarai.

Over the years, he has worked with numerous singers, including Shiva Pariyar, Anju Panta, Sworup Raj Acharya, Pratap Das, Nishan Bhattarai, Elina Chauhan, Rachana Rimal, Samikshya Adhikari and Prabisha Adhikari.

More Than 200 Songs With Pramod Kharel

Among his many collaborations, his work with Pramod Kharel stands out.

Bikram says he has appeared in more than 200 music videos featuring Kharel’s songs. Their collaboration has taken him through countless stories of love, heartbreak, separation and emotional struggle.

While Kharel’s voice carries the emotion of the song, Bikram brings that emotion to the screen. Their repeated collaboration has become one of the defining parts of his career.

More Than a Number

After more than a decade and over 500 music videos, Bikram says the biggest achievement is not simply the number of projects, but the audience’s continued acceptance.

His work has also brought recognition through various awards. Most recently, he received the ‘Decade of Honor’ at the 4th National Brand Music Award 2083.

From performing in school programs and Deusi-Bhailo celebrations to working abroad and eventually becoming a familiar face in Nepali music videos, Bikram’s journey has been built on consistency.

Over 500 music videos are not just a number. They represent hundreds of characters, countless stories and more than a decade of staying connected with audiences—one song at a time.
