Kathmandu – Filming of the upcoming Nepali movie “Maya Bhanekai Yasto Hola” has officially begun under the direction of Rekha Thapa. The shooting started on Monday at Shivapuri’s Royal Tulip National Park area in Kathmandu.
The film was originally announced on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri on Falgun 3. After the announcement, the production team officially commenced filming this week. Rekha Thapa, who previously directed successful films like Himmatwali and Malika, is returning to direction after nearly eight years. This time, she will not appear on screen and will focus entirely on directing the project.
Unlike her previous projects produced under her own banner Rekha Films, the movie is being made under the banner of Diya & Amu Films. The film features a strong cast including veteran actor Madan Krishna Shrestha and actor Dil Shrestha, who is returning to cinema after a long gap.
Another major highlight of the film is the presence of three former Miss Nepal titleholders. Shristi Shrestha, Namrata Shrestha and Niti Shah will be seen playing key roles. Earlier, the production team released two posters featuring the main cast in emotional and romantic moods. One poster shows Dil Shrestha alongside the three actresses dressed in red attire, while another depicts an emotional moment between Dil Shrestha and Madan Krishna Shrestha, hinting at a touching story about family responsibility and support in old age.
The film also stars Laxmi Giri, Vishal Pahari, Ravi Dangol, Sangam Bhandari, Sujata Shrestha and Binod Poudel in supporting roles. The movie is produced by Hari Narayan Shrestha and Maya Devi Shrestha and aims to present social emotions through a heartfelt love story.
Written by Dhruva Lamsal, the film seeks to explore the true meaning of love. Lamsal is also returning to screenwriting after nearly a decade. According to production head CM Bhardwaj Subedi, the shooting was originally scheduled to start earlier but was delayed due to the election period and recent circumstances. Filming will take place at various locations around Kathmandu and is expected to continue for about a month.
The film’s cinematography is handled by Sudip Baral, while Aniruddha Atreya serves as the chief assistant director. Rajan Ghimire is the film coordinator, with music by Prashant Siwakoti, costume design by Sujeni Malla and makeup by Priya Karki.
The production team aims to release the movie nationwide during the festival of Teej next year.
