‘Gobar Ganesh’ Crosses NPR 11 Million in 9 Days

Kathmandu — The film Gobar Ganesh, written and directed by popular comedian Marichman Shrestha, widely known as “Balchhi Dhurbe,” is enjoying a strong run at the box office.

Released on Magh 1 (Maghe Sankranti), the film has collected over NPR 11 million in gross earnings within nine days of its release. Even in its second week, the movie continues to receive encouraging audience turnout in cinemas.

Positive word of mouth has played a key role in increasing viewership, with the cast visiting various theaters to interact with audiences and gather feedback. Many viewers have praised the film, describing it as “a story from our own homes.”

Audiences have responded emotionally to the film’s realistic portrayal of the daily struggles, dreams, and limitations of lower middle-class Nepali families. The honest and relatable narrative has resonated strongly with moviegoers.

Presented by Balchhi Dhurbe Films, Gobar Ganesh features performances by Marichman Shrestha, Barsha Siwakoti, Buddhi Tamang, Padam Tamang, Binod Neupane, Nirmal Sharma, Mao Tse Gurung, Sitadevi Timilsina, Pujan Ghimire (Puku), and Santosh Baniya, among others.

Reflecting on the audience response, director and lead actor Marichman Shrestha said that hearing viewers say “this is my own story” after leaving the theater is the greatest reward for a filmmaker, expressing confidence that audience attendance will continue to grow in the coming days.
