KATHMANDU — Journalist Suman Sapkota, who has spent more than 15 years working across Nepal’s media landscape, has been honored for his continued contribution to journalism and media reporting.
Sapkota was felicitated in Kathmandu by veteran folk singer and Lok Swar Samrat Raju Pariyar and Chandra Mani Gautam, President of National Folk Broadcasters Nepal. The recognition came during a program chaired by Eman Khanal, operator of Mahak Recording Studio, with Pariyar attending as the chief guest.
The event also featured the release of the new folk song ‘Mugling Bazarma’, performed by singer and presenter Bishu Gurung with popular vocalist Melina Rai.
Sapkota’s journalism career spans several prominent media organizations, including Avenuez Television, Gorkha FM, Radio Deshantar, Deshantar.com, Sutra News and OS Nepal. Over the past decade, he has focused extensively on parliamentary affairs and legislative reporting, covering developments related to Nepal’s federal political and legislative processes.
His work has also earned him recognition at both national and international levels. At the 3rd Himalayan International Award 2023 (2079 BS), Sapkota received the ‘Music, Art, and Journalism Honor 2023’ from then Foreign Minister NP Saud. He was presented with a shawl, garland and certificate of appreciation.
He was also honored with the ‘Journalism Honor’ at the 4th Genius Music Award 2023, held at the Rastriya Nachghar in Jamal, Kathmandu.
His contribution has received international recognition as well. In 2024 (2080 BS), the Northern California-based Neel Krishna Jashoda Sitaula Foundation honored him with the ‘Neel Krishna Jashoda Youth Journalism Top Honor 2024.’
The latest recognition adds to a series of honors received by Sapkota during his career and highlights his continued involvement in Nepal’s journalism sector, particularly in parliamentary and legislative reporting.
