Kathmandu – After months of uncertainty and four previously cancelled release dates, Nepali film Abhimanyu has finally arrived in cinemas nationwide from Friday, securing a satisfactory number of shows across major multiplexes.
The film, which had become a topic of curiosity due to its repeatedly postponed release, seems to have converted that anticipation into strong theatre occupancy. Abhimanyu was initially set to premiere on August 27, but youth-led Gen-Z protests pushed the release forward. Before that, the team had also announced dates for August 8, October 10, and November 7, none of which materialized.
This time, however, the long wait appears to have paid off. The film has secured more than 100 shows across Nepal. In Kathmandu, QFX Cinemas alone has allocated over 11 screenings daily, while INI Cinemas has scheduled 11 shows across its five branches. One Cinemas is screening the film in six shows across two outlets, and both Big Movies and FCube have each offered two shows.
A pre-release premiere held earlier in Kathmandu generated positive buzz, with viewers praising the film’s storyline, presentation, direction, and performances. The project marks the directorial debut of Sushant Gautam and features an ensemble cast including Kameshwor Chaurasiya, Sarita Giri, Laxmi Bardewa, Gaumaya Gurung, Shishir Wangdel, Prakash Dahal and Kiran Shrestha.
Written by Mukesh Khanal, Abhimanyu is produced by Binod Paudel and Gunjan Giri, with Ramesh Chaulagain and Hari Shrestha as co-producers. The executive production team includes Bishal Lama, Hari Moktan, Krishna Bhattarai, Nirajan Luintel and Sandesh Shrestha. Sharad Mahato heads cinematography, Manoj Shrestha oversees VFX, Junim Gahtoraj handles color grading, and Madan Ghimire leads editing.
