Kathmandu: The upcoming Nepali film ‘Pension Patta’, directed by veteran actor and filmmaker Mao Tse Gurung, has begun selling its international distribution rights ahead of its release. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on September 11, 2026 (Bhadra 26), coinciding with the Haritalika Teej festival.

Despite not having released any promotional materials yet, the film has already secured overseas distribution deals. The UK distribution rights have been acquired by Sapan Entertainment Ltd, while Main Dragon Ltd has purchased the rights for Hong Kong. Director Gurung said the early international interest has been encouraging, adding that negotiations with distributors from several other countries are also in the final stages.

Produced under the banner of Mao Tse Gurung Films, the movie is also co-financed by Gurung, who is often regarded as a “godfather” of Gurung-language cinema. He has also written the film’s story.

Although the title suggests a story centered on a retired British Gurkha soldier, Gurung says the film actually portrays the transformation of a greedy young man into a generous individual.

The film features an ensemble cast including Dayahang Rai, Sunil Thapa, Pashupati Rai, Buddhi Tamang, Wilson Bikram Rai, Sol Gurung, Raj Thapa Kaucha, Manoj Gurung, Anusha Rai, Lunibha Tuladhar, Bishwas Gurung, Maya Gurung, Yasili Limbu, Kubina Gurung, DB Gurung, and Pratiksha Gurung, among others. Bishwas Gurung and Maya Gurung are making their debut in Nepali cinema through this film.

The project is backed by producers Min Konme Gurung (UK), Bhoj Bahadur Gurung (UK), Maya Gurung (Hong Kong), and Sapana Gurung, with DB Gurung serving as production manager.

The film has been shot by cinematographer Sushan Prajapati, while Suraj Tamu is the casting director. The music is composed by Manoj Thapa Magar, Shiva Baraili, and Surung Gurung. Editing is being handled by Kier Koich, and Taranath Neupane serves as the chief assistant director.

RR Films, led by Rohit Kattel and Ratna Shrestha, will distribute Pension Patta across Nepal.
