Kathmandu: A new Nepali film titled Ekka Missi Badshah has been officially announced, with actress Samragyee RL Shah confirmed in the lead role. The film will mark the directorial debut of Sanjay Rai.
The project was unveiled during a special event in Kathmandu on Saturday, held to celebrate director Rai’s birthday. The production team also introduced key members of the cast and technical crew while announcing that the film has entered production.
Presented by Mohini Devi Rai, the film currently has Samragyee as its only confirmed cast member, with the remaining actors still being selected. Alongside the announcement, the makers revealed Samragyee’s bold first-look poster, offering a glimpse of her character.
Speaking at the event, Samragyee said she had stayed away from films for some time because she had not found roles that truly appealed to her. She added that she immediately connected with her character in Ekka Missi Badshah, describing it as bold, fearless, adventurous, and unlike any role she has played before.
The film carries the tagline, “Some win, some lose, some become kings,” hinting at a story centered on victory, defeat, ambition, and success. Director Rai said the film is aimed at today’s generation and will explore themes of social media, love, relationships, and the ups and downs of modern life.
The production team includes Sudipta as executive producer, Elon Gurung as line producer, and Supath Shrestha as project supervisor. Narendra Mainali will handle cinematography, while Nikesh Karki and Roman Bajracharya are on board as music producers. Ashim Ranabhat will serve as stylist, and Sunil Shivabhakti will edit the film. Principal photography is scheduled to begin in February.
Executive producer Sudipta described Ekka Missi Badshah as a special milestone, as it marks her first venture into the film industry in that role.
The filmmakers also announced open auditions for two major male characters, Krish and Arjun, with additional casting and production details expected to be revealed in the coming months.
