Kathmandu – The trailer for the upcoming Nepali film “Mahabhoj”, which is set to release on Jestha 15 (May 28, 2025), has been officially launched. At a special event held on Sunday afternoon at QFX Cinemas, Rising Mall in Kathmandu, the film unit premiered a trailer of approximately four and a half minutes, introducing the press and audience to the film’s timely and socially relevant themes.

The trailer highlights the emotional and tragic stories of individuals entrapped within the systemic issues of cooperative institutions. Key characters in the film include Dayahang Rai, Aryan Sigdel, Khagendra Lamichhane, Anjana Baraili, Malika Mahat, Gaumaya Gurung, Basundhara Bhusal, and Mohan Niraula. Throughout the trailer, audiences witness the suffering of ordinary people who lose not just access to their savings, but even their lives, due to failures in the cooperative system. The trailer also touches on the despair of salaried employees and the arrogance of political manipulators.

Scenes depicting the death of poor members who saved money daily, only to lose it all, reflect a harsh picture of social inequality. The narrative boldly exposes how those in positions of power within cooperatives exploit their roles to misuse public funds for personal luxury. Toward the end of the trailer, a wall bears the message The truth can never be hidden, indicating the film’s commitment to unveiling the harsh realities of society. A few days prior, the entire cast had sparked curiosity by posting the same statement—“The truth can never be hidden”—across their social media platforms.

Director Dinesh Raut, speaking at the event, said, “The misuse of cooperative funds in our society isn’t a recent development. It’s not just because this issue has gained attention lately that we chose to bring this story to the screen. The film tells how some people at the top levels of society live luxurious lives by exploiting the lower classes. The cooperative issue is just one component of the broader story.”

Producer Himal KC added, “Money isn’t the only lure in this film. We wanted to tell a story born out of the very fabric of our society. That’s how Mahabhoj was created.”

Written and scripted by Bikash Subedi, Mahabhoj is produced by Clock Work Creation and Picture Frame. The film features performances by Aryan Sigdel, Dayahang Rai, Khagendra Lamichhane, Anjana Baraili, Gaumaya Gurung, Malika Mahat, Basundhara Bhusal, Mohan Niraula, Buddhi Tamang, Kamalmani Nepal, Pushkar Gurung, Binod Neupane, Abha Aryal, Birendra Singh Kushwaha, and others.
