Kathmandu — Film distributor Rohit Kattel has stepped into film production for the first time through the upcoming Nepali movie Mirmire. The operator of RR Films, Kattel has joined the project as an executive producer, marking a new chapter in his career within the Nepali film industry.

Explaining his decision, Kattel said he was drawn to the film primarily because of its story. “From a production standpoint, Mirmire is my first film. When director Yam Sherpa narrated the story to me, I genuinely liked it,” he said. “When you come across a strong and meaningful story, why not collaborate? That’s why I decided to invest.”

According to Kattel, the father–daughter relationship portrayed in Mirmire deeply touched him. He described the narrative as a reflection of common Nepali household experiences. “It is our story — a story of every home. Many Nepalis have lived and witnessed situations like this, which is why the story connected with me instantly,” he added.

Kattel further stated that he remains open to producing films with compelling stories in the future, whether through distribution or production, emphasizing his responsibility to bring quality cinema to audiences.

Written and directed by Yam Sherpa, Mirmire is set to release nationwide from Magh 1. Presented by Yarsa Films, the movie stars Dayahang Rai, Prakash Saput, Sirjana Ninglekhu, Maotse Gurung, Chhulthim Gurung, Bholaraj Sapkota, Bimal Yadav, Shaisa Gauchan, Dibisha Pant, Chirag Shrestha, and Namanraj Gajurel.

The film is produced by Nimu Sherpa, Chhongba Lama Sherpa, and Angchhiring Sherpa, with Govinda Bohara and Sudip Kunwar as co-producers. RR Films, led by Rohit Kattel along with Ratna Shrestha, has also taken responsibility for the nationwide distribution of Mirmire.
