Kathmandu- A complaint has been filed against actress and politician Hema Malini for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. Recently, the actress visited the Puri Jagannath Temple for darshan. The local organization Shri Jagannath Sena in Puri has filed a complaint against Hema Malini. The complaint accuses Hema Malini of violating religious rules. The organization also alleged that Hema Malini’s husband, Dharmendra, converted to Islam to marry her, and their marriage was performed according to Muslim customs, which they claim has hurt Hindu sentiments by allowing her entry into the temple.
The complainants stated that Hema Malini and Dharmendra’s marriage took place on August 21, 1979, in Mumbai, officiated by Maulana Qazi Abdullah Faizabadi. Dharmendra had previously married Prakash Kaur, with whom he has four children.
Under the Hindu Marriage Act of 1955, a Hindu is not allowed to marry more than once, so Dharmendra converted to Islam to marry Hema Malini. Dharmendra changed his name to Dilawar Khan Keval Krishna, and Hema Malini changed her name to Ayesha Bivi R. Chakravarty. From this marriage, the couple has two daughters, Esha and Ahana.
