Kathmandu: The makers of the upcoming Nepali film ‘Gaunthali’ have unveiled its official trailer ahead of the film’s theatrical release on August 1. Running for 3 minutes and 20 seconds, the trailer presents an emotional social and family drama centered on a young woman’s struggle for education and the unexpected challenges she faces after marriage.

The trailer follows the journey of Simran Khadka’s character, whose dream of pursuing an education is constantly hindered by her own family. It also portrays the emotional and psychological challenges she endures after marrying a young man with autism, played by Arun Chhetri, whose condition leads to unusual behavior that significantly impacts their married life.

Highlighting themes of gender inequality, conservative social values, and the lack of support women often receive from other women, the trailer depicts the hardships of a bride trying to balance her aspirations with family expectations. The rural setting, emotional storytelling, and powerful performances add depth to the film’s narrative.

Directed by Dr. Kapil Rijal, Gaunthali stars Arun Chhetri, Simran Khadka, Madan Krishna Shrestha, Prakash Ghimire, Lunibha Tuladhar, Rabindra Jha, Ishwori Baral, Sanjog Rasaili, Sita Devi Timilsina, Laxminath Timilsina, and Rajendra Nepali. Child actors Anshu Oli and Prince Nepali also appear in key roles.

The film is based on a story by Dr. Bhola Rijal, with the screenplay and dialogues co-written by Dr. Kapil Rijal, Nischal Kunwar, Niraj Nepal, and Giriraj Ghimire.

Produced under the banners of Bhola Rijal Production and Suman Giri Production, the film has Sarala Rijal as executive producer, while Suman Giri and Dr. Kapil Rijal serve as producers. Indu Giri, Manish Rijal, Pralaya Rijal, and Jeevan Oli are co-producers.

The soundtrack features music by Shambhujit Baskota, Thaneshwar Gautam, and Prashant Siwakoti, with background score by Alish Karki. Cinematography is by Hari Humagain, editing by Milan Shrestha, and sound mixing by Mukesh Shah.

The title Gaunthali carries historical significance in Nepali cinema. More than two decades ago, Dr. Bhola Rijal produced a film with the same name, widely regarded as Nepal’s first musical film, which successfully completed a 51-day theatrical run. The new Gaunthali, directed by his son Dr. Kapil Rijal, reintroduces the title with a fresh and socially relevant story.

The film will be distributed by Rich Entertainment, Apple Entertainment, and FD Company, while OSR Digital serves as its digital partner.
