Kathmandu: Singer Shantishree Pariyar must have been blessed by fate. She is currently the most listened-to musician on YouTube. Last week, two of her songs made history on the platform. Her song “Rukum Maikot” became the first Nepali song to reach 100 million views in a short period of time. Another of her songs, “Arelī Kāndāile,” became the first folk song on YouTube to reach 100 million views.

Shantishree is now a highly demanded singer. Born into a lower-middle-class family in a remote village of Rolpa, Shantishree has also shown that wealth can be earned through artistic work. Recently, she bought a house worth 4 crore rupees in Gongbu’s Ganeshsthan and moved there. Prior to that, she was living in a rented house in Samakhushi. In 2011, she married Narayan Bhujel from Dhading, and they have a 4-year-old daughter.

Her success in music is remarkable. At one point, she even worked as a stone crusher. She moved to Kathmandu in 2008 with the dream of making a career in music. In the capital, she started performing at “Dohori Sānjh” (traditional Nepali folk music programs) and continued her musical journey. After the release of the song “Bol Maya” in 2017, she has remained at the peak of fame. Since then, many of her songs like “Galbandi,” “Arelī Kāndāile,” and “Rukum Maikot” have become massive hits, with dozens of her songs achieving success.
