Kathmandu – Applications have been opened for the selection of a Nepali film to be submitted for the prestigious American film award, the Academy Awards, commonly known as the Oscars. The Foreign Language Film Selection Committee (Nepal), formed in Nepal, will select and recommend the best film that meets all the criteria set by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) to compete in the International Feature Film category.
According to the Academy’s announcement, to be eligible for the 98th Academy Awards, which will be held on March 15, 2026, Nepali films must have been publicly released between October 1, 2024 (Ashwin 15, 2081) and September 30, 2025 (Ashwin 14, 2082). The deadline to register films is September 5, 2025 (Bhadra 20, 2082) by 5:00 PM.
According to the committee, the applying films must submit the following materials:
A censor certificate
Advertisement or news clipping verifying at least seven days of public screening (for films already released)
OTT release certificate, if applicable
A 35mm or 70mm print, or a video version with a resolution of 2048×1080 pixels
5.1 or 7.1 surround sound audio format
Full credit list including director and producer
English subtitles
A brief synopsis of the film
The director’s filmography and photograph
3–5 still photographs from the film
A release poster in 600 dpi TIFF format
