Kathmandu- Music composer and singer Babul Giri, who was arrested in connection with the death of singer Nitu Paudel, has been released after submitting 300,000 rupees bail. According to SP Pawan Kumar Bhattarai of Kathmandu Police, Giri was freed from the custody of Kathmandu District Police on Wednesday after the district court ordered his release on bail.
Giri had been taken into police custody while the investigation into Nitu Paudel’s death was ongoing. According to police, Nitu had attempted self-immolation inside her studio located in Anamnagar, after which she died during the course of treatment.
After the incident became public, Paudel’s family has been making separate claims. According to them, Nitu and Babul were in a romantic relationship for a long time. The family alleges that Nitu became psychologically distressed after Giri refused to marry her, which pushed her towards taking such an extreme step.
Meanwhile, police say the work of collecting additional evidence related to Babul Giri is still ongoing.
