Kathmandu — The Nepali film Viral Gorkhey, scheduled for a nationwide release from Thursday on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti (Magh 1), held its premiere show on Tuesday evening at Ranjana Cineplex in New Road, Kathmandu.
The premiere was attended by the film’s lead actors Saugat Malla and Srishti Shrestha, along with Pooja Sharma, Sisan Baniya, Jaykishan Basnet, several celebrities, and media professionals. While Srishti Shrestha appeared in traditional Newari attire, Saugat Malla was seen wearing the national dress, Daura Suruwal. Director Nigam Shrestha, producers Rimit Shrestha and Mahesh Lamichhane, and co-producer Shubhechha Poudel were also present at the event.
Audience members exiting the screening praised director Nigam Shrestha’s storytelling, as well as the performances of Saugat Malla and Srishti Shrestha. Many described Viral Gorkhey as a well-made film that deserves to be watched by a wide audience. The film satirically explores the modern obsession with going viral on social media, highlighting its impact and consequences.
Actress Pooja Sharma termed the film entertaining and message-driven, while popular vlogger and model Sisan Baniya said he enjoyed the fresh presentation of the trending “viral culture” in Nepal, recommending viewers to watch the film in theaters.
Encouraged by the positive premiere response, lead actors Saugat Malla and Srishti Shrestha expressed optimism, stating that their hard work had paid off and that they now look forward to audience support. Director Nigam Shrestha also shared his confidence that the film would connect well with general viewers.
Produced under the banners of AK Brother Company, The GMI Academy, and Nirvana Film School, Viral Gorkhe features performances by Buddhi Tamang, Laxmi Giri, Rajaram Poudel, Rishi Dhamala, Ravi Bhujel, and Miss Pabi. The film is shot in Bhujung village of Lamjung, as well as locations in Gorkha and Chitwan. Advance ticket bookings have already opened across multiplexes and single-screen theaters nationwide.
