Kathmandu – A decade ago, watching films and TV serials on screen sparked a dream in young Sandhya Shrestha—to one day see herself performing the same way. Today, that dream has taken shape. Sandhya, an emerging actress, has already made her presence felt in several films, television serials, and music videos.
Born in Khadadevi Rural Municipality, Ramechhap, 24-year-old Sandhya has nurtured a passion for acting from an early age. Though she had a clear goal of becoming an artist, growing up in a rural area left her uncertain about how to pursue it. It was only seven years ago, after moving to Kathmandu, that opportunities began opening up.
“I used to watch actors on TV and imagine myself performing like them,” Sandhya told Artist Khabar. “I didn’t know much back then, but as I grew older, I learned and discovered many paths. Today, I’ve reached this point, but I know the journey ahead is long, and I want to make it a meaningful one.”
After settling in Kathmandu and building a network of friends, Sandhya got her first break in 2019 with the music video Timro Aankha Ma. She described the experience as a learning milestone, gaining valuable insights from a single project. In 2020, she appeared in the television serial Meri Bhauju, and in 2021, she modeled for several music videos including Dherai Dekhe Muharharu, Mutu Dukchha Aajbholi, and O Priya. Each of these projects helped her hone her craft.
Sandhya also ventured into short films and documentaries, further expanding her acting skills. Five years ago, she acted in the documentary Langauti, which she describes as a crucial learning experience following her work in music videos. She also participated in the short film Dashain, titled Parkhaai, gaining more screen experience. Last year (2025), she appeared in the short film Jadyaha Poi and the television serial Sahariya Buhari.

Transition to Feature Films
While Sandhya’s journey began with music videos and TV serials, she has long harbored ambitions to act in feature films. After navigating the competitive audition process, she has secured a role in the upcoming movie Jadau, where she will perform alongside seasoned actors Niti Shah and Mukun Bhusal. The film is co-directed by Kaji Limbu and Anjan Sharma.
Sandhya is also part of another film, Bam Bihari. While some portions of the shoot have been completed, filming is currently on hold and expected to resume in the near future.
With a career spanning music videos, television, documentaries, and films, Sandhya Shrestha is steadily carving out her place in Nepal’s entertainment industry—an inspiring journey from rural beginnings to the silver screen.
