Kathmandu — The upcoming Nepali film Buki, directed by Bibash Kumar Majhi and Mohan KC, is set to hold its world premiere in Osaka.

According to the production team, the premiere will take place on May 6, 2026, at Minato Kumin Center, with a special screening scheduled from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM. The event is being viewed as an important step toward expanding Nepali cinema into the international market.

Alongside the announcement, the makers unveiled a poster featuring lead actors Surakshya Panta, Devendra Bablu, Roshani Karki, and Prakash Ghimire. The visuals highlight elements of volleyball courts and players, indicating that the film revolves around sports—particularly women’s volleyball—and themes of struggle and perseverance. Hints of Himalayan landscapes and local lifestyle are also reflected in the design.

Surakshya Panta is portrayed in a sports jersey marked “Nepal,” celebrating victory with a trophy, suggesting an inspiring athletic journey. Devendra Bablu appears in a serious role as a player, while Prakash Ghimire is seen in a mentor-like character. Laxminath Timalsina also appears in the look of a coach or team leader.

Named after a flower that blooms in Himalayan pastures during the rainy season, Buki aims to explore the deep connection between sports and nature. The film has been shot in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and the scenic Dhorpatan area of Baglung.

Produced under the banner of Himalayan Musical Event Management and Films, the movie features a cast including Surakshya Panta, Devendra Bablu, Roshani Karki, Prakash Ghimire, Laxminath Timalsina, Nisha Bajgain, Ghanu Joshi, Anu Dahal, and Sandip Babu Lohani.

While an official domestic release date has yet to be announced, the production team is targeting a nationwide release within 2026.
