Grand Muhurat Held for Nepali Film ‘Maharajdheeraj’; Filming Begins from May 25

Kathmandu — The much-anticipated Nepali film Maharajdheeraj, which was officially announced about a year and a half ago, held its grand muhurat ceremony today (May 5, 2026). The auspicious event took place at the Baglamukhi Temple with traditional rituals, including conch sounds and Panché Baja.

The ceremony, which started at 8:00 AM, continued until 11:11 AM. Lead actors including Pushpa Khadka, Pooja Sharma, Usha Rajak, and Aryan Sigdel were present, along with director Parichhed Sen, for whom the film is described as a dream project.

Filming is scheduled to begin on May 25 in Sunsari District, starting from Sri Lanka Tappu, and will continue there for a week. The remaining 70 days of shooting will take place across historical and scenic locations in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Kirtipur. Cinematography will be handled by Nabaraj Thapa.

Described as a social period drama, the film features a large ensemble cast including Ramesh Upreti, Keki Adhikari, Gajit Bista, Jaykishan Basnet, Mohan Niraula, Dinesh D.C., and Sushil Sitoula, among many others.

Produced under the banner of Chhatreshwor Management Pvt. Ltd., the film is written by director Sen himself. Producers include Ravi Khadka, Shivraj Paudel, and Topendra Bista, while presenter Biraj Bista expressed confidence that the strong cast lineup will deliver a high-quality film.

Maharajdheeraj is slated for release during the upcoming Phulpati festival.
