Kathmandu: Renowned Nepali sitar player and composer Himalayan Sitar has released his second original song, ‘Ridge’, marking a new chapter in his musical journey by blending traditional sitar melodies with contemporary electronic sounds.
The approximately three-minute track draws inspiration from a mountain ridge—the narrow crest where two slopes meet. Reflecting this concept, ‘Ridge’ brings together two distinct musical worlds: the timeless elegance of classical sitar and the energy of modern electronic music. Through this fusion, Himalayan Sitar explores fresh sonic landscapes while remaining rooted in Nepal’s rich musical heritage.
As the lead artist, Himalayan Sitar showcases his signature sitar performance throughout the composition, creating a unique sound that bridges tradition and innovation. The release highlights his continued effort to expand the possibilities of the sitar beyond conventional classical boundaries and introduce the instrument to new audiences.
The song was produced, mixed, and mastered by sound engineer Thajville. The recording also features contributions from several accomplished musicians, including Deepak Shakya on bass guitar, Sabin Maharjan on flute, and Nikhil Bist on tabla. Akash Tamang and Swachit Shakya contributed to the arrangement and production, while Swachit Shakya also served as the production director.
‘Ridge’ holds special significance for Himalayan Sitar as it represents his official entry into the electronic music genre. The artist previously released ‘Vedanshi’, the debut track from his album ‘Shruti’, which received appreciation for its contemporary interpretation of classical sitar music. With ‘Ridge’, he takes a bold step further by embracing electronic elements and experimenting with a new musical direction.
The single is now available on Himalayan Sitar’s official YouTube channel, Spotify, and other major music streaming platforms worldwide.
