Kathmandu. The teaser of ‘Tunnel 26’, an international collaboration produced by Nirvana Chaudhary of the Chaudhary Group, Nepali actor Pradeep Khadka, Indian filmmaker Prashant Kumar Gupta, and popular Bhutanese actor Sangay Tsheltrim, has been released.
Released on Friday, the teaser features a diverse cast from Nepal and Bhutan, including Anup Bikram Shahi, Anna Sharma, Sangay Tsheltrim, Roshini Dada, Nidup Dorji, Phuntshok Dhonden, Deky Lhamo, Jamyang Tenpa, Phuntsho Kinrab, Chencho Lama, Kezang Kaj, Tseki Wangdi, Kaya Gyeltshen, Namgay DJ, Jigme Carlos, Chablop Pasu, Ugyen Dorji, among others.
Presented by Sangay Tsheltrim Films and Pic XV Productions, the film is written and directed by DD Kinley. Originally made in Bhutan’s national language, Dzongkha, Tunnel 26 is a joint production involving production companies from Nepal, Bhutan and India.
Among the film’s joint producers is Pic XV, the film production company owned by Nirvan Chaudhary. Nirvan’s father and Chaudhary Group chairman Binod Chaudhary had produced the Nepali film Vasudev in 1982. Nearly four and a half decades later, his son has entered film production with this international project.
Filming of Tunnel 26 was completed around six months ago, and the film is currently undergoing post-production in Thailand. The film is planned for release in Nepali, Dzongkha and Indian languages, marking an ambitious attempt to connect Nepali cinema with international and regional markets.
The film is produced by Dorjigs Production, Reltic Pictures, Domsip and Rolling Image Pictures, with Dorji Wangchuk serving as executive producer and Pradeep Khadka as creative producer.
For Khadka, Tunnel 26 marks his fourth production collaboration. He has previously been involved in the production of films including Scape, Thulo Manchhe and Eklo.
The production team is preparing to release the film in October. Featuring technicians and artists from all three countries, the film is planned to be released not only in cinemas but also on a prominent Indian OTT platform.
The cinematography has been handled by Dirgha Gurung and Sangay T. Tenzing, while Raju Tamang is the action director. Krishna Sharma serves as production designer, Pema Lhamo handles production management, and Blu Tshering Dorji is responsible for makeup and costumes.
The film features music by Terdsak Janpan, sound design and re-recording mixing by Karan Thamavong, dialogue editing and Foley by Rathakorn Thongnun, and visual effects by Niphan Studio. Director DD Kinley has also handled the film’s editing.
With filmmakers and performers from Nepal, Bhutan and India coming together, Tunnel 26 is being viewed as a significant cross-border cinematic collaboration that could provide Nepali cinema with greater access to regional and international audiences.
