Kathmandu — Speaking about his daughter, Dilip Rayamajhi says, “I went to America solely for my daughter’s education. I was worried she might get lost in the crowd over there or prefer to settle there permanently. But she came back to Nepal and embraced my own profession. I’m very happy now.” After living in the U.S. for many years, actor Dilip Rayamajhi and his family returned to Nepal last year to settle permanently. They have even bought a house in the New Baneshwor area.
Since returning from the U.S., his daughter Divya has worked in films like Actor: Take One, Pitambar, and several music videos. Dilip says that Divya will now continue both her film career and education in Nepal. He rose to fame with the film Darpan Chhaya and was once so busy that he shot for up to seven films in a single day. His career was at its peak when he moved to the U.S. and settled there. Now, he has returned with his family, resuming his career while supporting his daughter’s.
These days, many Nepali actors have chosen to settle in the U.S. for their future. Some hold green cards, while others are actively working toward acquiring one. Some have even renounced their Nepali citizenship. Notable actors living in the U.S. include Raj Ballav Koirala, Jeevan Luitel, Sushil Kshetri, Suman Singh, and Mukesh Dhakal. At one time, they were popular names in Nepali cinema, but now they have distanced themselves from the industry and live their everyday lives in the U.S.
Jeevan Luitel recently visited Nepal. Similarly, actresses like Jal Shah, Arunima Lamsal, Nandita KC, Yuna Upreti, Richa Ghimire, Saranga Shrestha, Pooja Chand, and Usha Poudel were once well-known names in the film industry. However, they too are currently far from the world of acting and Nepali cinema. While some artists have returned to Nepal after earning well in the U.S., others frequently travel between the two countries.
