The first look of the upcoming Nepali film Roll No. 1 has been officially released. Production company Seven Seas Cinema unveiled two posters of its new presentation on Thursday, announcing the film’s nationwide release on Jestha 15 (Republic Day) next year.

The newly released posters introduce the film’s characters while highlighting its core theme—an emotional portrayal of the reality of Nepali society. The posters use earthy brown tones to symbolize the struggles of ordinary working-class families.

One poster features child actor Nirbhik Regmi alongside lead actors Mukunda Bhusal and Renu Yogi, dressed in rural attire. Their appearance reflects the hardship and sacrifices they endure to secure an education for their son. The imagery emphasizes scarcity, resilience, and parents’ efforts to keep their child in school.

The poster shows the young boy with a soft smile, carrying a school bag, with a hill-region school in the background—clearly indicating the film’s focus on education and rural life. The mother is pictured with a karai (cooking pan) on her head and the father with a traditional damaha drum, symbolizing their daily labor and dedication to their child’s dream of becoming “Roll No. 1.”

The second poster depicts a deeply emotional moment where the child sleeps on his father’s back, with an exercise book placed under the child’s head and above the father’s. This imagery highlights how something as simple as study materials remains a barrier for rural students, and how parents struggle tirelessly to fulfill their children’s academic dreams.

Here, the father’s back is shown not only as physical support but as the foundation of the child’s future. The father’s tired eyes reflect uncertainty and fear about securing his son’s future, while the child’s peaceful expression shows complete trust.

The film’s tagline, “The Story of Every Student,” reinforces its focus on student life, educational struggle, and shared experiences of rural Nepali children. While the title Roll No. 1 suggests academic competition, the posters reveal the emotional and financial cost a lower-middle-class family must bear to achieve it.

An earlier first-look poster released last year—showing a child raising his hand in a classroom—had already generated attention. The team behind the blockbuster Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi is producing the film, and the emotional tone seen in the posters suggests the audience will build a strong connection with the story.

Directed by Jon Yonjan, the film stars Mukunda Bhusal, Sushank Mainali, Renu Yogi, and Sirjana Adhikari in lead roles. Child actors include Nirbhik Regmi, Rinchen Lama, Sanyam Katuwal, and Sijal Shrestha.

The film is produced by Binod Paudel and Janvi Paudel, with co-producers Chhatramaya Giri and Ramesh Chaulagain. It is written by Mahesh Dawadi. Filming took place across several scenic and rural locations in Myagdi district, with Shivaram Shrestha as the cinematographer (DOP).

The film features music by Prashant Shiwakoti, background score by Rohit Shakya, chief AD Firoj Khadka, production design by Kala Sangroula, and production head Manoj Joshi. Madan Ghimire serves as the editor.

According to producer Paudel, the film will be released simultaneously in Nepal and abroad. Distribution rights have been taken by Rich Entertainment and J.M. Cinema.
