
Kathmandu – Renowned for his unparalleled contributions to Nepali music, cinema, and the medical field, Dr. Bhola Rijal has been awarded the prestigious ‘Lal–Samundra National Multi-Talent Award’ during a ceremony marking World Music Day.
The award was presented by the Nepal Music Association, recognizing Dr. Rijal’s lifelong dedication to both the arts and health sectors. A celebrated lyricist, artist, film producer, and distinguished gynecologist, Dr. Rijal received a certificate of recognition along with a cash prize of NPR 25,000.
In addition to Dr. Rijal, the event also celebrated several other influential figures for their contributions to Nepali music and culture. Honorees included Shiva Shankar Manandhar, Ratna Shamsher Thapa, Prem Dhoj Pradhan, Pushpa Nepali, Phatteman Rajbhandari, Subha Bahadur Sunam, and dance maestros Rajesh–Laxmi.
The ‘Lal–Samundra National Multi-Talent Award’ was founded by Vikas Ghale Gurung, a U.S.-based writer-director, in memory of his parents Lal Gurung and Samundra Gurung. Gurung, who is also an international Taekwondo athlete and dance theory scholar, established the award to inspire younger generations through the recognition of multi-talented individuals who excel in diverse fields.
Past recipients of the award include notable personalities such as Om Pratik Gurung, Bhimarjun Acharya, Komal Oli, Nir Shah, the legendary comedy duo ‘Maha Jodi’ (Haribansha Acharya and Madan Krishna Shrestha), and Vijay Lama.
The award is conferred annually on June 21 to coincide with World Music Day, underscoring the celebration of creativity and talent across disciplines.
