Durgesh Thapa, Eleena Chauhan, Kum Sagar and More to Perform at National Music Awards in Kathmandu

Kathmandu – Some of Nepal’s most celebrated musical talents, including Durgesh Thapa, Pashupati Sharma, Eleena Chauhan, and Kum Sagar, are set to perform live at the upcoming National Music Awards. Organized by Radio Kantipur, the event will take place on Asar 28 (July 12, 2025) at the Godawari Sunrise Convention Center, which has a seating capacity of 3,000.

In total, 10 prominent artists will share the stage, including Sushant Ghimire, Swapnil Suman, Asmita Adhikari, Wangden Sherpa, Sundar Khanal, and Sujita Shrestha, alongside the aforementioned performers.

At a press conference held Friday, Radio Kantipur revealed details about the event, which not only includes live performances but also an awards ceremony recognizing excellence in Nepali music across 14 categories. These include:

  • Best New Male and Female Singer
  • Best Lyricist
  • Best Music Director
  • Best Folk Duet Singer (Male and Female)
  • Best Playback Singer (Male and Female)
  • Best Pop Singer (Male and Female)
  • Best Musical Band
  • Best Modern Singer (Male and Female)

This year, two new categories—Best Hip-Hop and Best R&B Artist—have been introduced, reflecting the growing popularity of contemporary genres in Nepal.

A major highlight of the event will be the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award, which will be given to a veteran artist for their lifelong contribution to Nepali music. The award comes with a cash prize of NPR 100,000.

In addition, a People’s Choice Award will be presented, based on public voting and listener participation. A panel of jurors has already selected five nominees in each category, based on songs broadcast over the past year. Final winners will be determined by a second-level jury.

The National Music Awards promises to be a celebration of Nepal’s rich musical diversity and talent, bringing together artists and fans under one roof for a night of recognition, rhythm, and resonance.
