Kathmandu — The first look video of the upcoming dark comedy film “Zero Degree” has been released, officially announcing its theatrical release during this year’s Tihar festival. The film is produced under the banner of Meghauli Films.
The first look has already generated strong curiosity among audiences, particularly due to actor Vijay Baral’s striking transformation into a village ward chairperson named “Punya Chaulagain.” In the teaser, Baral is seen in a bold and satirical avatar that highlights a politically charged character with humorous undertones.
A key dialogue in the video, “Where there is a problem, there is Punya Chaulagain,” along with his line suggesting he is the only authority the village needs, establishes his character as a cunning and influential local leader. Dressed in a thick moustache, glasses, Dhaka topi, and a formal suit, Baral’s portrayal carries strong satirical weight.
One particularly symbolic scene shows the ward chairperson sitting behind a nameplate reading “Punya Chaulagain Ward Chairperson,” seemingly involved in a financial exchange, while a wall behind him displays a bold message reading “Stop Corruption!” The contrast suggests a sharp satire on Nepal’s political hypocrisy and double standards.
Other visuals include the character riding a white horse while carrying stand fans, as well as villagers transporting a large wooden box through hilly terrain. The box is widely interpreted to contain a deep freezer, which plays a central role in the film’s storyline.
The film’s narrative revolves around a remote village with poor road access, where villagers attempt to preserve a deceased body in a deep freezer until relatives return from abroad. This situation leads to a series of chaotic and comedic events.
Jiro Degree is directed and written by the duo Sajan Kafle and Aakash Baral, who previously worked on the hit film “Behuli from Meghauli.”
Shot in scenic locations including Dhital, Armalakot, Gharmi, and Bagar in Kaski, the film features an ensemble cast including Vijay Baral, Prakash Ghimire, Rajan Bhusal, Sanisha Bhattarai, Basundhara Bhusal, Ramesh Budhathoki, Lokendra Lhakur, and Sanjog Rasaili.
The film is produced by Moti Karki, with cinematography by Nishal Paudel, editing by Chanus Pun Magar, color grading by Rajendra Moktan, and music by Ankit Babu Adhikari. It will be distributed by Kuber Cine Distribution outside the Kathmandu Valley and by DCN within the valley.
The production team expects the film to offer strong entertainment during the Tihar holiday season while delivering a satirical commentary on contemporary rural politics and social realities.
