Kathmandu, May 22 — The Nepal Film Journalists Association (NFJA) marked its 27th स्थापना दिवस (Foundation Day) and National Film Journalism Day by honoring and awarding seven film journalists for their outstanding contributions to Nepal’s film journalism sector.
At a special ceremony held at Lisara Reception in Kathmandu on Thursday, veteran film journalist Ananta Wagle received the prestigious National Film Journalism Silver Honor 2083, accompanied by a cash prize of NPR 55,555.
Similarly, Jayan Subba Manandhar and Kuberraj Giri were presented with the National Film Journalism Honor 2083 in recognition of their long-standing contributions to the profession.

Under the National Film Journalism Award 2083, journalist Baikuntharaj Parajuli received a cash prize of NPR 51,000, while Surakshya Bhattarai was honored with the Late Dinesh Sitoula Memorial National Film Journalism Award 2083, also carrying a cash prize of NPR 51,000.
Likewise, Milan Dhungana was awarded the National Film Journalism Encouragement Honor 2083 along with NPR 25,000. A special posthumous tribute was also paid to late journalist Dinesh Sitoula for his significant contribution to film journalism.
The event brought together filmmakers, actors, journalists, producers, directors, and representatives of various film-related organizations. Traditional Panche Baja music welcomed guests and award recipients, while cultural and musical performances added vibrancy to the celebration.
Speaking as the chief guest, Film Development Board Chairman Dinesh DC said Nepali film journalism has become increasingly organized and professional over the years. He emphasized the vital role of journalism in promoting Nepali cinema and urged media professionals to uphold discipline, ethics, and credibility while avoiding unverified reporting.

Special guest and veteran actor Rajesh Hamal highlighted the deep relationship between cinema and journalism, noting that both sectors have evolved significantly with time. He stressed the growing need for responsible, fact-based journalism amid the challenges posed by rapid technological change and “click culture.”
Actress Karishma Manandhar described cinema and journalism as complementary fields, stating that journalism remains one of the most effective mediums for connecting films with audiences. She called for stronger collaboration between artists and journalists.
NFJA President Sameer Balami reaffirmed the association’s commitment to making film journalism more organized, responsible, and dignified, while General Secretary Gopi krishna Chapagain said the awards recognized professionals ranging from emerging journalists to veterans with over three decades of experience in the field.
The ceremony also paid tribute to the association’s founders, including founding president Bharat Shakya, and remembered former NFJA president Dinesh Sitoula.
Several prominent personalities from Nepal’s film industry attended the event, including actors, directors, producers, and representatives of various film organizations. The program also featured a welcome dance by model Asmita Puri and a musical performance by The Voice of Nepal winner Process Pandey.
The event was supported by the Film Development Board, while medical professionals from Everest Hospital provided health check-up services for participants. Numerous corporate and media partners also contributed to the successful organization of the celebration.
